Our history
|
The manor of Weston was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086 and was held by Barking Abbey. It continued as the property of the abbey until it was bought by Henry VIII shortly before the monasteries were dissolved in the 1530s. The Parish of All Saints Weston was formed in 1939 with the consecration of a new church designed by Edward Maufe. It stands to the west of the green by Marney's Pond and the white painted building is certainly a most impressive church when viewed from across the pond (see Photos). The architectural historians, Nairn and Pevsner, described the inside of the church as 'impressive'. Maufe used All Saints as the blue print for his design of Guildford Cathedral, consecrated in 1961. |
